Trail, BC – A standout night of food, wine, and community generosity has helped push a Kootenay Boundary mental health campaign to the $1 million mark. Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital (KBRH) Health Foundation’s 2026 Perfectly Paired fundraiser raised $84,000 on Saturday, March 14, bringing the Mental Health Matters campaign to $1 million just one year after launch. The milestone puts the foundation halfway to its $2 million goal, marking significant progress in what is described as its most ambitious campaign to date.
“This campaign is about so much more than a renovation, it’s about people, healing, and ensuring that no one in our region feels alone in their mental health journey,” said Lisa Pasin, executive director of the KBRH Health Foundation.
“The incredible success of events like Perfectly Paired, along with the generosity of our community, has helped us reach the halfway mark of our $2 million goal.” Funds raised through the campaign are already making a tangible difference, supporting upgrades to key mental health care spaces at KBRH, including the Daly Pavilion — a short-stay acute care psychiatric unit operating since 1970 — and Harbour House, a residential rehabilitation facility for adults with severe mental health conditions.
At the Daly Pavilion, new weighted furniture, recliners for treatment and meditation, a portable vital signs monitor, and kitchen supplies are aimed at improving patient comfort, safety, and daily living skills. At Harbour House, updated furnishings and appliances are helping create a more home-like environment that supports independence and routine. Planning is also underway for a secure outdoor pediatric space, giving children and youth access to fresh air and safe recreation.
“There is still important work ahead, but together, we are building something truly meaningful that will have a lasting impact across the Kootenay Boundary region,” said Pasin.
This latest signature fundraiser, Perfectly Paired, brought together top culinary talent, featuring a collaboration between Chef Bruno Feldeisen (The Great Canadian Baking Show) and Chef Kai Sengewitz, The Josie Hotel’s executive chef.
Guests were served a carefully curated five-course menu, including confit duck leg, smoked salmon and goat cheese custard, and passion fruit cheesecake, each paired with wines from Keremeos’ Clos du Soleil Winery.
“Seeing our community come together for Perfectly Paired is genuinely moving,” Jerome Boye, general manager of The Josie Hotel, reflected. “It’s a powerful reminder that people here show up for one another.” Every dollar raised goes directly toward strengthening mental health care in the Kootenay Boundary, helping close critical gaps in access, he added. “We’re proud that The Josie can serve as a gathering place for that kind of impact, bringing people together in support of something that truly matters.” Each year, people across the Kootenay Boundary rely on local mental health services.
