Spotlight on: Taylor Dextrase, Registered Nurse at the Daly Pavilion

For the past five years, Registered Nurse Taylor Dextrase has been a dedicated member of the Daly Pavilion team, providing compassionate care to individuals facing mental health challenges. Her journey into mental health care is deeply personal—after overcoming childhood trauma, Taylor made it her mission to break down stigmas and support others on their path to healing. Whether in her personal or professional life, she is committed to making a difference. “My goal is always to leave individuals in a better state of mind than I found them, fostering growth, positivity, and resilience in every interaction,” she shares.

Taylor’s work extends beyond traditional nursing duties—she is actively involved in developing new treatment options, including launching a Ketamine program for individuals with treatment-resistant depression. She knows firsthand how vital it is to provide compassionate, individualized care that makes patients feel heard and supported. Her impact isn’t limited to patients—Taylor also helps create a collaborative, supportive environment for staff and works to reduce stigma in the community by advocating for accessible mental health care.

One of the most profound moments in Taylor’s career was when she intervened in a patient’s suicide attempt, ultimately saving their life. She had noticed the patient withdrawing more than usual and made a point to check in frequently. That connection and vigilance made all the difference. “This experience reinforced my desire to help others recognize their full potential and live life to the fullest,” she reflects.

Over the years, Taylor has witnessed a positive shift in mental health awareness. More people are seeking help for conditions like anxiety, depression, and PTSD, leading to earlier intervention and better outcomes. She believes that campaigns like Mental Health Matters play a key role in ensuring that mental health is treated with the same urgency as physical health.

For Taylor, one of the most exciting aspects of the campaign is the opportunity to upgrade the facility’s space and equipment. She knows firsthand that a calming, well-designed environment can make a significant difference for both patients and staff.

“It’s important for the space to feel safe and supportive, not only for the individuals accessing care but also for the staff providing it,” she says

She also highlights the need to eliminate hazards on the unit and create a space that feels less institutionalized—one that truly supports healing and recovery.

Taylor has one key message for donors and community members: mental health affects everyone. “We can never predict when we or a loved one may need mental health support,” she says. “When that time comes, our goal is to provide care in an environment that offers the same modern amenities and comforts found in any other hospital unit.” By supporting the Mental Health Matters campaign, you’re helping create a space where individuals feel safe, supported, and empowered on their journey to recovery.
