Doukhobor Heritage Retreat Society

KBRH Health Foundation is grateful to Doukhobor Heritage Retreat Society (DHRS #1999), doing business as Whatshan Lake Retreat, for their generous $50,000 donation in support of advanced breast cancer care technology at Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital (KBRH). This meaningful contribution is helping bring magnetic seed localization technology to KBRH, enhancing surgical precision and improving the patient experience for individuals undergoing breast cancer surgery closer to home. Magnetic seed localization technology represents a significant advancement in breast cancer care. The technology uses a tiny seed placed directly into the tumour ahead of surgery, allowing surgeons to more accurately locate and remove the tumour during the procedure. This approach improves surgical precision, enhances patient comfort, and helps streamline the overall surgical experience. Lisa Pasin, KBRH Health Foundation Executive Director, gratefully accepted this donation from Jim Laktin, DHRS #1999 Founder; Marilyn Verigin; and Elmer Verigin, DHRS #1999 Founder (left to right), whose generosity is helping advance breast cancer care for patients across the region. This donation represents an important first step toward fully funding two magnetic seed localization systems for KBRH.
