Keystone of Life Foundation

Thank you to the Keystone of Life Foundation for their very generous donation of $9,320 to purchase two Direct Anterior Retractor sets for the Orthopedic Department. These retractors are used during total hip replacements performed using the Direct Anterior Approach, a minimally invasive technique that allows surgeons to access the hip joint without cutting major muscles. The retractors help expose the hip and femur during surgery, increasing visibility for the surgeon and supporting safe, efficient procedures. By increasing the number of retractors available, the department can perform more cases in a day, allowing patients to be scheduled sooner and improving overall access to care. The Direct Anterior Approach also enables patients to be discharged within 24 hours, supporting faster recovery and reducing tissue trauma. This important equipment enhancement supports orthopedic surgeons, including Dr. Seth Bitting, pictured alongside KBRH Health Foundation Executive Director Lisa Pasin, in delivering advanced care for elective same-day hip replacements and fractured hips.
