The Portable Suction machine is used on a Simulation Crash Cart. It allows our healthcare teams to practice resuscitation at the bedside or in a location that an unexpected or emergency situation may occur. Suction is a critical airway management tool and although suction is used regularly, this piece of equipment is more rarely needed; having it available to practice with will reduce stress, create efficiencies and enhance patient outcomes in critical events. The Tracheostomy Trainer prepares medical staff to care for patients on Medical and Surgical floors. It will be used to practice the care of new tracheostomies and to prepare for potential complications as well as the care of long-term trachs. Uses include all tracheostomy techniques such as managing secretions, suctioning and washing, dressing changes, and emergencies. The Trainer also allows practice in gastric tube insertions, intubations, and all other airway skills. Together, the Tracheostomy Trainer and Portable Suction with Crash Cart are valuable education and training tools for our medical teams. Helen, Simulation Knowledge Coordinator, shows us this valuable education equipment.
