Thanks to generous community support, two specialized “cuddle beds” have now been added to the palliative care rooms at Columbia View Lodge.
Unlike a standard hospital bed, these expandable beds can be widened with additional mattress sections, creating space for a loved one to lie beside the patient. This simple but meaningful feature allows families to share quiet moments, hold hands, provide physical comfort and simply be together during an incredibly difficult time.
The new beds are an important part of the recent palliative care room renovations, helping create a more compassionate, dignified and family-centred environment for end-of-life care.
